Can foreigners buy freehold property in RAK? Yes — non-UAE nationals can own property outright (freehold) in Ras Al Khaimah's designated investment areas, with the same registered title and inheritance rights as any owner.
Freehold vs leasehold
- Freehold — you own the property and the land outright, in perpetuity, with a registered title deed. This is what overseas buyers get in RAK's investment zones.
- Leasehold — a long-term lease (e.g. 99 years) rather than outright ownership. Less common for the marquee investment communities.
Where foreigners can buy freehold
Freehold ownership for all nationalities is available across RAK's flagship investment communities — Al Marjan Island, Al Hamra Village and Mina Al Arab among them.
Your rights as an owner
A freehold owner can live in, rent out, resell, gift or bequeath the property. Ownership is registered with the RAK land department, and there is no requirement to be a UAE resident to buy or hold.
Ownership through a company
Some investors hold UAE property through a company structure for estate-planning or portfolio reasons. We can point you to the right legal advisers where that is relevant.
